Claire Manuel Group Editor

Claire Manuel has many years’ experience in publishing, working as a journalist, editor and managing editor.

During this time she has worked on a range of consumer, customer and business-to-business publications, including projects for clients as diverse as AOL Time-Warner, the London Metal Exchange, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

At Newsdesk Communications, she manages the editorial and creative process for each of our clients. Together with the specialist editors and design team, she works with each client to devise a synopsis and creative template. She also oversees the production process, keeping each client fully informed of the status of their publication and working together with the client to ensure that Newsdesk Communications delivers the required product on time.


Peter Elstob Editor

Peter Elstob joined the Financial Times group after graduating from London University in 1976. He worked at the research unit of The Banker magazine, the FT’s oldest subsidiary, becoming managing editor of the unit in 1979. From 1982-1997 he edited a variety of financial newsletters in the FT Business Information division, covering international banking, trade finance, financial regulation, credit risk and investment in the transition economies of Eastern Europe. He left the FT at the end of 1997 when it sold its newsletters business and established himself as a contract editor specialising in the field of international capital markets. He lives with his wife and two grown-up children in London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Jon Marks Editor

For 20 years Jon has been a journalist and analyst focusing on international trade and financing issues he is associate editor of the fortnightly International Trade Finance and is an expert on the politics and economics of the Middle East, Euro-Mediterranean and African regions. He is author of several books and papers on international finance, Middle East and North African politics and business.

He has edited a number of Newsdesk Communications publications, including:

Adrian Leonard Editor

Adrian Leonard has many years’ journalistic and editing experience, and for the past seven years has been focused exclusively on insurance and reinsurance matters. He is the well-known author of several key studies on the reinsurance world.

He has edited several reinsurance-related magazines and has held senior positions in the industry including editor of Financial Times World Insurance Report, news editor of Insurance Day Newspaper, UK & Europe correspondent for BestWire and BestWeek, and London correspondent for Leader’s Edge Magazine and Journal of Commerce. Previously he was press officer at the London International Insurance and Reinsurance Market Association.

Paul Beaver Editor

In his 20 years as a journalist and international broadcaster, Paul Beaver has become one of the most widely respected and sought after commentators on both civil and military subjects. He is a frequent contributor to television and radio and a well known writer for influential aerospace and defence industry publications. He was previously responsible for Jane’s Defence Weekly. He also contributes to leading media around the world.

He has an extensive knowledge of current procurement issues within aerospace and defence markets and is a contributor to the UK House of Commons Defence, Foreign & Commonwealth and Trade & Industry Committees.

He has edited a number of Newsdesk Communications publications, including:

  • The yearbook for the UK Government’s Defence Export Services Organisation.

Philip Butterworth-Hayes Editor

Broadcaster, consultant and writer on global aviation affairs, Philip Butterworth-Hayes is editor of Jane’s Aircraft Component Manufacturers, Jane’s World Defence Industry, and writes on civil aviation issues for The Wall Street Journal. Since 1992 he has been the European Correspondent for Aerospace America. He is a former editor of Jane’s Guide to Military Aircraft, Airports International and Interavia Aerospace Review and is an aviation consultant to BBC Television.
