The role of ECGD is to help UK companies win export business and invest overseas. As the UK’s export credit agency it works closely with exporters of capital equipment, project-related goods and services, project sponsors, banks and buyers. For eighty years, ECGD has been helping to arrange finance packages for overseas buyers of UK goods. It also provides UK exporters and investors with insurance protection against the risks of non-payment and political turmoil.


ECGD wanted an authoritative publication which would act as a source of information about exporting and the role played by ECGD in driving the UK’s overseas business. Designed to be retained by the recipient as a reference work, the publication was given a broad mandate to include, in addition to detailed information on the work of the ECGD, coverage of exporting related topics in the major industry sectors and overviews of defined geographical areas such as the Pacific Rim and South America. A further requirement was that the yearbook should be self-funding.


Now in its eighth edition, Global Exporter is edited by the distinguished journalist Jon Marks. His team of accomplished journalists work closely with ECGD officials, who provide expertise in and practical experience of export credit, finance and foreign trade. At 196 pages, with a foreword written by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Patricia Hewitt, Global Exporter is a substantial work, full of interest, insight and valuable information for its primary audiences of finance and export directors, project sponsors, senior managers in banks, brokers, insurers, reinsurers, and legal firms, as well as key players in Government agencies and British embassies worldwide.


Recent readership research conducted by Dataquest demonstrated that Global Exporter is achieving ECGD’s objectives. 90% of recipients read and retain the publication for future reference and a substantial majority consider that Global Exporter is written with a good understanding of the key industry issues and trends. The enthusiasm of advertisers who want to position themselves alongside editorial in Global Exporter, not only ensures that the publication is self-funding, but is also a good indication of its reach to ECGD’s key audiences.
